The Saga of the Pool

When we bought our house a bit over a year ago, it came with a pool. We knew that there were some problems with the deep end of the pool because our home inspector also inspected the pool. What he did not indicate was that it would take tens of thousands of dollars to fix. The journey has finally begun, though, and I sit here with the sound of jackhammers coming from the back yard.

We thought we were look at $10,000 max to fix a leak in our pool. After having some qualified and some not-so-qualified folks come take a look, it was determined that we needed to take out the old concrete decking, replace all the tile, add more equipment, and re-do the marcite (concrete lining of the pool itself), not to mention repairing the actual cracks.

So today marks the first day of actual work. They're tearing up the concrete decking, and they've already basically drained the pool. I was able to walk into it and take some photos after lunch today. That was a weird change of perspective! By the end of it, though, we should have a lovely new pool, new saltwater system, new decking, and a new SPA!!! We decided that since we're having everything torn up anyway, we might as well pay the extra money and upgrade. Eight-foot octagonal spa, here we come! If only I can survive the jackhammering...
